Oregon Caves National Monument is small in size, 480 acres, but rich in diversity. Above ground, the
monument encompasses a remnant old-growth coniferous forest. It harbors a fantastic array of plants, and a Douglas-fir tree with the widest known girth in Oregon. Three hiking trails access this forest. Below ground is an active marble cave created by natural forces over hundreds of thousands of years in one of the world's most diverse geologic realms. |

Cave Junction Oregon is a small town. It is the Gateway to the Oregon Caves National Monument and the commercial, service, and cultural center for a rural community of small farms, woodlots, crafts people, and families just living apart from the crowds. The valley we live in is in the basin of the Illinois River Valley and it's tributaries. It is nestled in the mountains known as the Siskiyous in the Klamath Range. We are directly west of the Medford/Ashland metro area about half way to the Oregon coast. There are approximately 15,000 people living in the Illinois Valley |
